Faculty/Staff Testimonials

University of Cincinnati faculty and staff reflect on their many years of giving to UC. Click here to hear their stories.

We asked our co-chairs why they feel it is important to support UC, about the transformative power of giving, and what inspires them to give to UC year after year:

Bruce Ault – Clifton Campus, West

Ault photo 2009 1.JPG"The University of Cincinnati has given me the opportunity to work and achieve my professional goals in teaching and scholarship.  I’m able to work with a group of friendly, supportive colleagues and do what I love to do.  I believe that giving back shows my appreciation for this opportunity and may inspire others to do so as well.

I’ve watch two major transformations of the University in my years here.   First is that of the physical plant, from a collection of outdoor asphalt parking lots to a very attractive, enjoyable campus on which to work.  Second, and more important, is an increasing emphasis on excellence in all aspects of University life.  With these transformations, I see the University of Cincinnati on a distinctly upward trajectory.

First is my appreciation for the opportunities provided me as a professional.  Second is my recognition from talking to many students who must work extensively to afford college, that more student scholarships at all levels are needed to help educate qualified, deserving students."

Jeffrey Bauer – Clermont College

The University has been my home now for 15 years, so as I am part of the UC community, the University is also part of me.  When people ask what I do, I don’t say I work at UC – I say I teach at UC, because most of the time teaching material that I enjoy and helping students does not feel like work to me.  It is always nice to get a call or an e-mail from a student 5 or so years after they graduate and to hear about all of the wonderful things they are doing – that transforms my day.

If you listen to our student’s stories, hopes, and dreams you will hear a myriad of things that make you Proudly Cincinnati.  For me it is the thought of how these few dollars that I can provide will create a ripple effect that will encourage others to give, and will encourage the recipients of scholarship funds to give back of their time and talents in the future.  Each dollar is a little piece of an amazing puzzle, and that is why I am Proudly Cincinnati.  My plan is to give a little bit each year until retirement and beyond."

Ginny Hizer – Raymond Walters College

Hizer_Photo.JPG"I think it’s important to give back to UC because when faculty and staff financially support the university, we serve as a role model to the general community, our alums and corporate donors. One of the most commonly asked questions by a potential donor is: What type of monetary support do your employees provide to the university? When employees give, it shows that we believe in the mission and the fulfillment of that mission in the lives of our students and the difference the university makes in our community.

In my role at Raymond Walters College, I have been honored to hear many, many testimonials from our alums and current students about the difference our college – and the university - has made in their lives. The university also plays such a crucial role in our community, from offering affordable higher education options for the region and our role in ensuring college is made attainable for the area. It’s an honor for us to play a part in helping students find success – wherever their career path might lead.

I’m Proudly Cincinnati because I believe in our mission and have seen numerous examples of how UC had made a difference for our students and alums. We give people the hope and encouragement they need to succeed, improving the quality of life for our alums, our community and the nation."
